Presentation of the country

Located in the extreme west of the African continent, Senegal covers an area of 196,722 km2. The country is bordered to the north by Mauritania, east by Mali, to the south by Guinea and Guinea Bissau, on the west by the Gambia and the Atlantic Ocean on a frontage of 500 km. The climate is dry tropical, is characterized by two seasons: a dry season from November to June and a rainy season from July to octobre.Dakar, the capital of Senegal, is a peninsula located in the extreme west.

Following the example of many countries in Africa, Senegal is characterized by linguistic and cultural diversity.

French is the official language. Six languages have the status of national languages: Wolof, Serer, Fula, Mandinka, Soninke and Diola.

Culture

Country of tourism and discovery, Senegal offers to visitors a change of scenery with its rich and varied cultural heritage and a hinterland that puts the tourist in contact with the deepest Africa.

The visitor in Senegal has the pleasure, next to the international cuisine served in all restaurants, to taste the delicious specialties of a rich and sophisticated cuisine. This is particularly ThiebouDieune (or rice with fish), the Yassa chicken and lemon, mafé which isthe country's art and secret.

Entry formalities in Senegal

 

Visas

To be eligible to enter the Senegalese territory, all foreigners must submit:

  1. A passport valid for at least 6 months;
  2. Free entry visa deliverable at the Léopold Sédar Senghor airport in Dakar, unless an exemption;
  3. A repatriation guarantee, a return ticket or circular or a ticket for a destination outside Senegal;
  4. International vaccination certificates required by health regulators.

Entry visas in Senegal are issued by the Minister of the Interior and on delegation thereof by the Senegalese diplomatic or consular agents or those with power to represent Senegal in this area. These visas are granted with or without prior consultation with the Minister of the Interior, under the conditions set by it.

Nationals of these countries are allowed to enter the territory of Senegal on presentation of:

  • a validpassport, a national ID card or a pass;
  • international vaccination certificates required by health regulations.
